If your child is planning a future trip to Pioneer Plunge or is here right now, we want you to have the information you need to rest easy while he or she is away. There are many activities at camp in which your child may be participating. Whether they are challenged while hiking, wood splitting or simply cooking a meal with friends, their safety is our top concern.

What to Bring:

Pioneer Plunge will provide a Nalgene water bottle, sleeping bag and backpack. Feel free to bring these items if you already own them!

Gear

  • Pen, Bible, Journal
  • Sunglasses
  • Camera - all phones will be taken up and not available to use for taking pictures
  • Nylon hammock (Eno​ or similar) not a requirement, but thoroughly enjoyed by a lot of campers
  • Headlamp
  • Ziploc baggies
  • Dirty clothes bag
  • Hand-wipes and hand sanitizer

Clothing 

  • Hiking boots/work boots - an expensive hiking boot is not a necessary purchase to make
  • Socks (3-4 pairs)
  • Underwear
  • 6 t shirts and long sleeved shirts 
  • Bandanas (1-3)
  • Rain jacket
  • Tennis shoes or sandals to wear around camp when not working
  • Fleece jacket or sweatshirt
  • Work gloves
  • Jeans or other work pants - at least 1 pair of work pants and 1 pair of closed-toe shoes is required.​ Steel-toe boots (as well as other safety equipment) are provided by Plunge for necessary work projects.

Personal

  • Glasses and/or contacts
  • Towel
  • Toothbrush and toothpaste
  • Insect repellent
  • Personal medication

Please do not bring personal snacks or candy, soap and shampoo, deodorant, makeup, mirrors or razors.

Safety

Your Camper's safety is our biggest priority!!

Upon arrival to Pioneer Plunge, each camper will undergo a safety training by our staff. Young Life and Pioneer Plunge maintain the highest level of safety and standards in operation of all of our activities at camp.

Pioneer Plunge's activities are facilitated by trained and experienced staff. Your child will be in good hands while at Pioneer Plunge.

In the event of an unexpected accident, our staff are trained in Wilderness First Aid and there is always a qualified medical professional on call to tend to your child's needs. Also, if needed, the local hospital is only a short drive away.

Accessibility

We welcome kids of all abilities to our camps. The Pioneer Plunge experience has been designed with teenagers in mind. It is challenging, but very achievable. If your child has any special conditions, please be sure to note all of that information on the Young Life Health Form. If there are additional health needs or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact our office.
